Guitar output jack doesn't work?

well i just bought an acoustic guitar with an output port of an amplifier. I have an amplifier but not wanted listen play guitar in my chair so I went to Radio Shack and has 1 / 4 "male to 1 / 8" female converter. Then pluged the drive in my guitar and plugged into the 1 / 8 "which takes the chair of play carries on the drive but I did not hear anything when I played. this is not high on my ipod cousin plays with the same cable and then I pluged in a pair of headphones into the women's final, but nothing came out well the guitar does not work?

make sure the pick-ups on your guitar have batteries working.also them and can play through the game from his seat, but since it is a sound that really does not need an amplifier unless you are playing great
