The reason for all this pressure from your family and friends is because that a bass guitar player is not seen as that important when you think about a band. Think about a band for a second. You do not think about the bass guitar player, but instead the lead vocalist and the lead guitarist. A true bass guitar player has a totally different attitude about music than a lead guitarist does.
In fact, the bass guitar player knows that they are responsible for keeping the rhythm steady and not so much as creating a show for the audience. As a bass guitar for beginners you should learn that you do not need to be loud nor all flashy to be a great bass guitar player. Simply learn how to play the bass guitar correctly and practice as hard as you can.
To become an established and accomplished bass guitar player you will have to be not only stable, but dependable. No matter what type of band you are in, that band will depend on the bass guitar player and the drummer to set the mood of the band as well as to determine what type of the band the is. Your band can be good or it can be great depending on how well you are at keeping the rhythm flowing.
One thing that a bass guitar for beginners needs to realize is that the bass guitar is not the easiest instrument to learn how to play. It is sometimes difficult to learn enough notes to play a song and that can become frustrating to a beginning bass guitar player. However, do not let this deter you from practicing and cause you to quit playing. Continue your lessons and continue practicing as much as you can, because you can do this and it will pay off in the long run.
Lessons that are needed for bass guitar for beginners include learning what pick-offs and hammer-ons. We will begin with learning what a hammer-on is, which is basically what it says it is. To do a hammer-on you will strike an open string, such as G, strum that string, then tap your finger solidly on the fret. When you do this you will automatically hear two very different notes, if you have done it correctly. Bass guitar instruction is a very important thing to get right, you need to do it by a specific order.
The next is how to do pick-offs, which is basically removing your fingers. To do this correctly, place your fingers on the second fret of the G string as you did when trying to do the hammer-on. Now, as you are removing your finger you will actually pull the string at the same time that you are removing finger in a downward motion, which will produce a note. Both of these techniques will take a little practice to get use to doing, but they will be vital to you becoming a top rate bass guitar player.
