Bass amp making a buzzing noise if I’m not touching something metal?
I have a Squire by Fender Jazz Bass, with a Fender Rumble 15 Bass Amp. On the front of the bass guitar are three knobs – two big, one small. The small one (I have no idea what it’s called officially) has been giving me a bit of a headache.
When I turn the knob up to maximum, my amp starts making a loud buzzing noise. As soon as I touch anything metal on the guitar (strings, winders, etc), the buzzing stops until I let go. The higher the knob is turned, the louder the noise. If I turn the knob down to minimum, the noise goes away. I’m sure it’s still there and I just can’t hear it.
Of course, the higher the knob is set, the richer the sound is. I like the richness of the sound, but hate the buzzing.
Does anyone know what specifically is causing this noise, or why it only happens when the knob is turned up. And of course, how can I fix it?
The noise is a ground probelm. The buzz goes away when you touch something becasue the system is partially being grounded thru you. This can be a very dangerous if there’s anything wrong with the wiring inside the amp. Its likely the ground problem is in your guitar or guitar cable.
Make sure your amp’s power cord does NOT have a pin cut off. If it was designed to have a 3 pin plug and one was cut off, you are in danger.
