Songs of Summer-Part Two
As we continue our look at songs with the word "summer" or "summer" in the title, we explore some timeless Classic.
In 1958, 19-year old Eddie Cochran recorded a song he wrote and his manager Jerry Capehart about the trials and tribulations of teenage life in America. Originally a B-side recorded, the average "Summertime Blues" reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 to 29 September 1958.
Capehart said the inspiration for this song in Rolling Stone magazine's Top 500 songs question: "It had a lot of songs about summer, but none of the strains of the summer been licked. "So with this idea and a promising future guitar of Cochran, the two were in a position to write the song in 45 minutes. This was alleged, the B-side the ballad "Love Again", a song by 17-year-old Sharon Sheeley, Cochran finally the friend was written. She was also in the car accident caused the his untimely death in April 1960.
The clapping of Sharon Sheeley, who apparently had trouble, the rhythm was performed, Cochran helped her out by her, how to clap. The deep voice on the end of each verse was done by Cochran. Part of the text mentioned the controversy over the voting age was then 21 and the song is very popular among his young fans that may want the lyrics about being back by the company (and parents) rather than in context.
Unfortunately, while on tour in Great Britain, 21-year-old Cochran died in a traffic accident in a taxi that crashed into a lamppost. Songwriter Sharon Sheeley (Cochran and they were as "unofficial busy, "reported) and singer Gene Vincent survived the crash, Vincent conservation such severe injuries that shorten his career and influence it would for the rest of his life. After the accident, Sheeley returned to the United States, where she and the musician and songwriter, Jackie DeShannon on a number of hits. You died on 17 May 2002 at age of 62.
The song helped define Cochran's career, but there is still much more to the story. His influence on music is very profound and sometimes underestimated. Eddie was largely for the introduction of rock 'n' roll to be credited to the Beatles. In fact, were George Harrison and John Lennon both motivated and moved by the visit Eddie's gigs in England before the Beatles made. Cochran was a prolific artist and was posthumously unfortunately more of his music released as had published during his life. His pioneering contribution to the genre of rockabilly was awarded by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
Countless Other musicians have the cut and the song was by a number of superstar musicians, including Buddy Holly, who is covered by the track on his tour in England in 1958 broke. Some Say that the early Rock and Roll was influenced in the UK More by Holly and Cochran as the music of Elvis Presley, who never set foot on British soil.
Let us who have covered this ground-breaking single. In 1968, the band Blue Cheer covered the song for their LP Vincebus Eruptum. Your version leaves all of the answer song Cochran's version in favor of instrumental reactions include every member of the band and the cut reached No. 14 on the Billboard Top 40 and spent an impressive 13 weeks in the charts. A follow-up single barely the tip of the top 100, was Blue Cheer version of their one and only American hit single. A Headbanger's Journey: But was their version one of the first heavy metal recordings in the 2005 documentary Metal presented.
"Summertime Blues" was recorded by the Who, though her version was done in a more aggressive (and louder) style than the original. It reached number 27 on the Billboard charts in 1970 and the cut was a staple in concerts of 1967-1976, but not the song they have played since the death of John Entwistle. Your version of the song featured John Entwistle singing the lead vocal parts of the head, the father, and Congressman in his trademark baritone growl, also plays the bass guitar and Roger Daltrey's doubling the lead vocal on the verses in his normal register.
Others who have covered by this Directive are song iconic country star Alan Jackson, who on his 1994 album "Who I Am". Alan Jackson's version reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. If Canadian rockers Rush perform song, concert, the crowd sings the lines "No Dice son, you have to work late, "" You can not drive because you do not work a lick "and" I "d like to help you son but you're too young agree to. "Other acts that have recorded a cover version of the Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Bobby Fuller include Clash George Thorogood, Guess Who, Ventures, Black Keys, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Van Halen, Humble Pie, T. Rex, White Stripes, why soft pop singer Olivia Newton-John to to name a few. Jimi Hendrix on "Summertime Blues" as a positive early in his career.
In March 2005, Q magazine is at # 77 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks and the song is ranked # 73 in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is also in the Grammy Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not bad for a B-side.
Part of the British Invasion, Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde (like the folk-singing duo Chad and Jeremy), hit # 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 years 1964 with the cut "A Summer Song." The melody has some resemblance to Buddy Holly's "Words of Love", which was covered by the Beatles in the same Year. Chad and Jeremy had seven U.S. top 40 hits in 1964-66.
Some may remember the duo from their many TV appearances in the mid-1960s. Chad and Jeremy seemed as in the episodes of the television series Batman was playing a fictional duo called "The Redcoats' on an episode of the TV sitcom, Dick Van Dyke Show, the satirical and Beatlemania also had a guest appearance on The Patty Duke Show.
In addition, said Stuart (Chad) Flaps the vulture in the 1967 Disney film The Jungle Book. Clyde (Jeremy) appeared as a contestant on the Bachelor-The Dating Game, where he won. In 2003, reunited PBS Chad and Jeremy with a 1960 Pop Reunion Special which also prompted a tour. In carried out at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah in January 2009 and are still active on tour.
In 1984, Don Henley Square reached 5 on the Billboard charts with the summer cut "The Boys of Summer". It was the title track and first single from Henley's album "Building the Perfect Beast." The song was by Henley and Mike wrote Campbell (guitarist and producer, known for his work with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers). In fact, Campbell offered to Petty, but he refused and the song went at Henley, who wrote the song (Campbell also played guitar and produced the cut). The title comes from a baseball book by Roger Kahn called "Boys of Summer", the over the Brooklyn Dodgers, broke the hearts of their fans when they moved to Los Angeles.
According to Campbell: "I used to be a 4-track machine in my house have and I had just had a drum machine – it's like the Roger Linn Drum Machine for the first time. I was playing with that and came up with a rhythm. I have the demo on my little 4-track, and I showed it to Tom, but at the time that the record we were working, Southern Accents, lasted not really like anything that would fit into the album sound. The manufacturer we work with at the time were Jimmy Iovine, called me one day and said he had with Don, I had never met said, and said he was looking for the songs. He gave me his number and I called him and played it for him and he called me the next day and said he put it in his car and had these words written and wanted it . Add That's how it started anyway. "
The opening song ("No one on the road, nobody on the beach") may, in reference on the California coast in the summer turns into fall. It becomes a much quieter place if the weather gets cold. Lyrically, the song about the passing of youth and Entering middle age are, with the obvious theme "Summer Love" clearly in the choruses and the memory of a past relationship. In a 1987 interview with Rolling Stone Magazine says, Henley, the song "More on Ageing and the questioning of the past," a recurring theme in Henley's song.
The song's most famous lyric: "Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac" is supposedly inspired by Henley who saw Joe Walsh Driving a Cadillac hearse with a Grateful Dead sticker on while on Sunset Boulevard. Henley was known to be a rabid fan of the psychedelic symbols and was often seen hanging backstage with Jerry Garcia and other band members.
The music video for the song was a French New Wave-influenced piece under directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino and shot in black and white. It shows the main character of the song in three different phases of life (like a little boy, a young adult and middle Age), in each case, memories about the past relationship. These appear during the line "A little voice in my head said do not look back, can You never see again, "look at what point, each of the three people turn back to.
The song was a hit in the UK, reaching # 12 the UK singles chart. A re-release of the single in 1998, reached # 12. Hardcore college radio darlings Codeseven has a cover of the song and in 2003, the Rock band The Ataris covered "The Boys of Summer" for their album "So Long, Astoria". DJ Sammy (with vocals by Loona performed) covered the song in 2002nd Henley won the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for the song. "The Boys of Summer" was # 416 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of 500 best Songs of all time ranked.
