I have an acoustic guitar one Christmas a few hoping to learn, but never learn. I recently acquired an electric guitar and now I am determined to learn. What is the best way to teach? What are some exercises that can do and how often should I practice? What are some good songs / chords to start with? And I looked at the tabs but do not quite understand how they work? Are they a good way to go, because it requires no music reading?
The best way to teach yourself is to follow a structured lesson plan from a book or website. I love online classes because you can use the video it helps if you are a new player. New players must play at least once every two days in order to rapidly develop calluses on their fingers. This site has some free video lessons for beginners. There is also a section on read guitar tabs in fairly simple terms.
