What is needed to study guitar in college?
I do not know if I'm ready … not even good enough. But the university is coming soon. I'm big into music. I've been playing guitar for about three years, mostly electric. I can hold my own with most musicians here and have played with rock bands, jazz groups. I am largely self-taught on guitar. I learned a lot by ear. I am currently working on the theory and during my last half of high school, I'm taking more lessons from theory and teaching guitar more. My sight reading is not very good yet … But on However, I fear that my style and what the game will not be what the university wants. I want so badly to go and study my instrument … or at least studying music theory and composition … I do not think I'm at the right level. Am I doing there? Or is this also a lofty goal for someone with credentials as poor as me?
You must be able to read music and sight. You also must have some knowledge and learn some difficult songs to impress the teacher. (Berklee, MI and Juliard have hearings before they let anyone in.) must know how to improvise. Whether jazz, rock or blues that you will want to jam out over some chords to be prepared for a spontaneous jam session. Also, learn its rhythms. One of the tests that give you more of rhythms. The instructor should applaud some rhythms and be able to write. That's all I could think of.
