Flamenco Guitar Making Classes

Mallorca Travel Sant Elm, Dragonera, Galilee and an evening stroll in Palma de Mallorca
My stomach problems yesterday were gone and I felt as good as new on this beautiful morning in late May. An early highlight of the day was the breakfast on our large balcony in Torrenova Aparthotel complex. Although the hotel itself is a bit dated and not very fancy, was our view of the Mediterranean just precious.
At 10 clock we had from the coastal tourist areas in the quiet Mountain town of Calvia, which stretches along the foothills of the Tramuntana driven Mountains. In the center of town we stopped at the local church of Sant Joan Baptista, one end of the 19. Century church, built over the foundations of the 13th Century. Calvia itself is not a huge tourist destination, but an authentic Mediterranean City where the locals go about their daily work.
Back roads through rolling hills and olive groves, then took us to Andratx, a picturesque small town in the shadow of Puig Galatzo mountain. We explored the church of the city and the adjoining castle, where we enjoyed a unique view of the coast in the distance. Andratx and environment usually very expensive area, and many northern Europeans their villas and holiday homes in the region.
Our next destination was the westernmost settlement Mallorca: Sant Elm, a picturesque fishing village with a beautiful sandy beach. Despite several new tourism developments, the city has retained a lot of its old charm. Various restaurants and bars overlooking the bay. In the course you will get a better look at Dragonera, a small rocky island, the jagged peaks reminiscent of a dragon's back. The island is uninhabited and has been transformed into a nature reserve.
Tourists can visit the island by ferry from Sant Elm, and many go on Dragonera to do hiking. The island itself has no accommodation or hospitality establishments. Another local target, called Sa Trapa is a former mill and has historical Agriculture. The San Telmo area is popular with walkers who enjoy the spectacular views over the northwestern tip of the island.
We continued our Tour back up through Andratx and the mountains. The contrast between the bustling coast of Mallorca and the quiet mountain regions is amazing, and we only met a few lonely mountain bikers on the twisting mountain roads. We stopped in Galilee, a pretty mountain village on the slopes of Puig Galatzo towers. The parish church dates from the early 1800s, and a charming restaurant sits right at the square near the church. The peaceful streets and cobbled squares give the illusion of being far from the modern world removed.
A few kilometers further east is the village of Puigpunyent, which is located on the eastern slopes of the Tramuntana Mountains. Puigpunyent less than 15 miles away from the capital Palma de Mallorca, but feels like a different world. Located in an arc-shaped valley, is slowing the pace, and locals and tourists alike enjoy their leisure time seeking outside on the terrace of the picturesque village.
We went on a hill in the center of town, we noticed a huge mansion on that had been converted into an upscale hospitality facility called the Gran Hotel Son Net. 31 luxurious rooms and suites, two gourmet restaurants, a swimming pool and a wellness center Guests enjoy the exclusive device. I love the Spanish architecture, and the stately building, dating from 1672 is a great example of Majorca Mansions. It was converted into a luxury hotel, opened in 1998. But the history of this place goes back much further: A house has been on this site for more away than 1000 years.
As an ardent architecture and history buff, I went to check out the main floor and admired the solid construction of stone with its rounded arches and the tasteful decor and furnishings. Great views from the open terrace overlooking the surrounding valley and a lovely swimming pool. One of the highlights of this historic building is the authentic olive oil press that the core of the oleum is appropriately named restaurant. We stumbled upon a beautiful was, it was just a pity we did not have enough time to spend and a drink in this inspiring environment of the first-class facility.
Instead, we had to turn around and re- back to our apartment in Palma Nova, where my travel partner Gary packed his bags when his plane left today. By late afternoon we went to Palma and I fell off for Gary his flight back to Austria. Now I had three days to explore Mallorca from me.
I wanted to spend the evening in Palma de Mallorca, parked my Car east of downtown and strolled through the narrow lanes of La Calatrava proximity to the famous cathedral, La Seu. This district has narrow, winding streets that are was from Arab times when Mallorca from the Moors in the early 10th Century, dominated until his recapture in 1229. One of the few relics of Moorish architecture in Palma are the Arab baths, which are also in the area.
As the sun began to lower on the horizon I arrived on Calle Mirador, adjacent the imposing Cathedral and the Palau de l'Almudaina fall. This palace was the former royal residence of King James II, the Mallorca reconquered from the Moors in the early 13. Century. The walls of a former Arab fortress was used in the construction of the Palau de l'Alumdaina. With the castle and the cathedral in my back, enjoyed I have a beautiful view of the Mediterranean, past the Parc de la Mar, a large artificial lake and a giant mural by Joan Miro features.
I strolled into the last two west is as important additional sites including the Consulate of the Sea, an elegant Renaissance-Baroque building from the 1600s, today the Seat of government of the Balearic Islands and La Llotja, a former stock market, which dates to the late Gothic style and finished in 1456th Llotja is unusual that there is a secular building is, while most of the architecture that is obtained from the Gothic area, consists of churches and cathedrals.
The nearby Plaza Drassanes was very lively with several outdoor terraces and live music. From here I began to explore the narrow streets west of the cathedral, in restaurants, bars, jewelry stores and some beautiful patios that are the hidden treasures high of so many old buildings in the old part of town. I stayed at looked at a few pastry Ensaimadas famous, the dow is Majorca yeast cakes that are shaped like a coil. They are usually sold in gift boxes and their names actually from the Arab word "Saim," the "lard" means. They looked mighty tasty in their display case, but I was unlucky as our store was already closed.
On the Plaça del Rei Joan Carles I stopped to take in the almost Parisian atmosphere with lively outdoor cafes and an accordion player. Hiking in the South by the Passeig des Born, Palma's main shopping street, I landed on the Plaça de la Reina and on the Carrer Conquistador headed to Palma City Hall. Located in a historic building on the Plaça Cort, this is also the location of the main tourist office in Palma.
Always curious, I went in and admired the entrance hall with its impressive staircase. Two giant statues of a Majorcan man and woman in traditional dress were flanking steps, and two other giant figures of a traditional Mallorcan flute player and drummer were guards on the left side of the entrance. The city library is also in this building.
A very large, gnarled Olive tree stands across from City Hall to photograph a popular place for tourists. I went north on the Carrer Colom, a trendy shopping street in Palma. Most Places had already closed or shut down. I caught a glimpse of a store called "Toronto", which is actually a sandwich bar. This was surprising, Mallorca is not visited because of many Canadian travelers.
At the end of the road I came to the Plaça Major, a pedestrian area only a 19th place Century. Building on all four sides of the square have the same facade and several bistros and cafes to entertain guests on their outdoor patios. In the middle of the square one Flamenco player was magical, the passers-by with his guitar.
It was now dark, and I started my way back to my car through the narrow streets of La Calatrava. All the shops were already closed and this neighborhood seemed quiet and deserted. Very few people were on the road, with the exception of a few American marines which had sailed into the city aboard a U.S. warship.
The sun had already slipped under the horizon, in my half hour walk began again to Palma Nova. Reflecting back on the day I thought that Palma de Mallorca is one of those places that would be perfect for retirement. With its great climate, variety of cultural and entertainment offerings and the beautiful surrounding countryside of Mallorca has to offer this Mediterranean city a lot.
