The best way to restring an electric guitar

For a novice, this may seem a little intimidating. But with the right tools, some knowledge and some practice, you will be able to restring an electric guitar like a professional guitar tech. When I was gigging regularly, I strung my guitar every week. My body chemistry is acidic and the sweat and oils from hands tend to dull the luster of the strings and make them feel "dirty." For me, the bright sound and smooth feel of a new set of strings. Inspire my playing has become a ritual for me the night before concert weekend began, I sat in front of the TV and restring my electric guitar. My acoustic was much less frequent.

OK, so I decided that not want to pay the guys in the music store and want to know how to restring an electric guitar yourself. Here is the list of tools and supplies you'll need:

• A new set of strings (naturally!) Click here for more information about the size of chain
• A string winder (Not required, but very practical)
• A pair of wire cutters
• A guitar tuner (again, not necessary but useful)

Have to put aside an hour to do this properly, but as I said earlier, with practice you will know how to restring your electric guitar in a 20-30 minutes.

The first thing I remember, do NOT remove all six strings at the same time. The guitar neck is designed to withstand the tension of the strings and if all the tension is removed from a significant amount of time can damage your guitar.

In addition, there are some guitars that are literally kept together with the string tension. I remember reading a story about a guy who had recently hired as a guitar tech for the Ramones. Wanting to give a good impression of Johnny Ramone, decided to restring his guitar for him right before the show. He removed all six strings and Johnny Mosrite guitar literally collapsed in his hands. The string tension held the whole guitar together! Worse, the bridge of the guitar bounced off the floor and fell through the air duct conditioning.

If I remember history correctly, he spent considerable time with a coat hanger and chewing gum trying to rescue the road bridge. He retrieved it and managed to keep his job, living to restring the guitar another day. But not all six strings at once!

But I digress. Some people work in pairs of strings at once, I prefer to work on individual strings. Quickly decide what works best for you. Use this article as a guide to catch up quickly.

Well, let's get to what I always start with the high E string (personal preference). Help keep organized.

If his guitar has a locking nut tremolo (whammy bar) system you have to unlock. It works best if you remove the clamps completely and work only with the nut the restringing process is done and the strings are stretched and tuned. Then replace the locking clamps and fine tune with the tuners on the tremolo bridge.

· Use your rope rope and loosen the string until there is enough slack so you can relax because the string from the tuning by hand.
· Use the wire cutter curly cut end of the string and discard. Do this to minimize the possibility of scratching the finish on the guitar. Push / pull the string back through the bridge slowly making sure not to drag through the body. You do not want restringing your guitar to result in the finish of the guitar!

· Then develop the appropriate new string. Inserted through the bridge of the guitar, over the chair, to the neck, the nut and the hole in the post adjustment. Again make sure the back end of the chain does not drag across the guitar body.

· Start turning the tuner by hand making sure the chain is set at the top of the line position. Ideally, you want to have 3 to 4 wraps of the string around the tuner, but this in nothing to stress over.

· Turn the tuner until the slack is out and the chain is properly seated in the nut and bridge saddle.

· Next clip excess string around the tuner and use your string winder to bring the chain to the field.

· Use digital tuner and tune the field game.

· Then, grab the rope with his hand halfway between the bridge and nut selection and lightly pull the string off the fretboard. Do not throw very hard, strong enough to pull the section of the chain and tighten around the tuner post.

· Tune to pitch and repeat the process extends until the string stays in tune.

Now repeat for the remaining five strings. Know that the tone of new strings may fluctuate as working on the ropes remaining. This is especially true with a Floyd Rose or similar type floating bridge. When you have replaced and stretched the last string make sure all six strings are still in line. If you have a locking tremolo system, replace the heads of
nut, tighten and use the bridge fine tuners to get the right tone.

The final step is the best, sit back, crank your amp and enjoy. Be sure to play something with lots of note bending in it and make sure the stretch is all I played.
