The guitar – a brief history
The guitar is an old instrument that can be traced back over 4000 years. The fact that there are many different Theories as to the top only shows the attractiveness and uniqueness of this instrument.
The earliest stringed instruments are probably the harp and bowl tanbur be. Terms like these are available for display at various museums in the world, and select instruments from ancient Egypt and Babylon.
The name "Guitar" comes from the ancient Sanskrit word for "string" – "tar".
With the beginning of the Renaissance became the four-course guitar dominant in most parts of Europe but was replaced by the five-course Italian instrument as the guitarra battente known. The standard tuning, as our modern guitars, had already settled in A, D, G, B, E.
A sixth course of strings (12 strings) was the 17th battente guitarra Century, but finally gave in to six single strings – similar to the modern instrument. But it was not until 19 Century that the guitar began to emerge today.
Spanish maker Antonio Torres developed an instrument that resembles the modern classical guitar by increasing the size of the body, changes its proportions and the introduction of Fan-top bracing pattern. These changes improved the volume and tone of the instrument, and it was accepted by the construction standard.
On the heels of the Spanish Influence was the presence of the United States of America as a new supplier of all things guitar! A group of German immigrants to America introduced guitars with X-braced tops. Then, when the twentieth century dawned, so has the use of steel strings to improve the sound of the instrument and benefit from the addition of the German X-brace.
During this time the fame of Orville Gibson built archtop guitars and later merged with Lloyd Loar, the archtop "jazz" guitar in his now famous Form with f-holes, floating bridge and cello-type refine tailpiece.
The electric guitar does not come on the scene until the 1920's. In the beginning it was just Date Hawaiian guitars with pickups and was of little importance. That all changed in 1936, when the Gibson ES150 model introduced later became known by Charlie Christian.
Today we have practically the same device with a few modifications, which reflect Just personal taste and therefore appeal to a larger Group of consumers.
