Bill Bailey (born January 13, 1965 Mark Bailey, Bath, Somerset) is an English comedian, musician and actor. In addition to its extensive stand-up work, Bailey is known for his appearances on Have I Got News For You Never Mind the Buzzcocks, QI, and Black Books.

Bailey was performed by the viewer as one of the 50 funniest acts in British comedy in 2003 and 2007 he was voted number seven on Channel 4 in the hundred greatest stand-ups.

Personal life

Bailey spent most of his childhood in Keynsham, a town between Bath and Bristol in western England. His father was a general practitioner and his mother was a Ward sister. His maternal grandparents lived in a neighboring building, built on the side of the house of his maternal grandfather, a stonemason of and builder was. Bailey was at King Edward's School, a private school in Bath, where he first of a university education students won the most awards. He spent his early years listening to Monty Python records and samples with a band called "Famous Five ", which he himself confesses were very bad, but still much better than he and, unexpectedly, had only four members. However, he is a classically trained musician and received an Associateship Diploma of the London College of Music as well as an honorary member of the Society of Crematorium Organists. Still, he said he always had the temptation, with music silly, a property that influences his stand-up shows.

Bailey often mythologises his early years in his stand-up. In his show Bewilderness, he claims, attended Bovington Gurney School of Performing Arts have and Owl Sanctuary. An avid Star Trek fan, he named his son (born 2003) after the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine character Dax and often refers to himself as a Klingon (once claims, in his "Part Troll" tour, which made his ear-mounted microphone to remind him "a wizard in a call center" and "a Klingon motivational speaker").

He currently lives in Hammersmith in London and supports Queens Park Rangers.

Careers

Early stand-up

Bailey started the country toured with other comedians such as Mark Lamarr. In 1986 he founded a double feature, the Rubber Bishops, with Toby Longworth (a former classmate at King Edward's Bath), which was replaced in 1988 by Martin Stubbs. They achieved a certain success on the club scene, partly because of their tight schedule sometimes three or four concerts each night. It was here that Bailey began developing his own style, mixing in musical parodies with deconstructions or variations of the traditional jokes ("How many amoebas does it take a light bulb to replace one, not two not four eight …") No -! to comedy folklore, after a critic once his act criticized for their lack of jokes, Bailey returned the following night, at Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh, to carry out a set of entirely of punchlines.

Stubbs later quit, pursue a serious career, and carried out in 1994, Bailey Rock at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Sean Lock, a show about an aging rock star and his roadie Script-edited by comedy writer Jim Miller. It was later used for the Mark Radcliffe show on BBC serialized Radio 1. However, the show's audience figures not impressive, and on one occasion the only person in the audience was comedian Dominic Holland. Bailey confessed in an interview with The Independent that he almost gave it up to a telesales making job.

He insisted, however, and went solo in the next year with the one-man show Bill Bailey's Cosmic Jam. The show was very well received and led to a recording at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London, which aired in 1996 on Channel 4 an hour special called Bill Bailey Live. It was not until 2005 that this DVD uncut in and was published under its original title. It was the first time that Bailey was able to combine his music and post-modern gags with the whimsical style, expansive He is known now.

After Donna McPhail support in 1995 and won a Time Out Award, he returned to Edinburgh in 1996 with a critically acclaimed show that was nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award. Among the other nominees was future Black Books co-star Dylan Moran, who narrowly beat him in the closest vote in the award history.

Bailey won the "Best Live Stand-Up Award at the British Comedy Awards, 1999.

Although he did not win Perrier in 1996 the nomination was enough to get him noticed, and in 1998 the BBC gave him his own TV show, there is Bill Bailey?

This was not Bailey's first foray into television. His debut took place on children's TV show Motormouth play in the late 1980s, the piano for a mind-reading trick went wrong dog.The missed, and remembered about Bailey experience on the BBC show Room 101 with Paul Merton in 2000. In 1998, Dylan Moran approached him with the pilot script for Black Books, a Channel 4 sitcom about a grumpy bookshop owner, his assistant put on, and her neurotic friend. In 2001, Bailey began touring the globe with Bewilderness what has been a great success. A recording of a performance in Swansea has been released on DVD in the same year, and the Show was on Channel 4 that aired Christmas. A modified version of the successful in America proved, and in 2002 Bill released a CD with a recording of the Westbeth Theatre in New York. The show contained all his trademarks, popular music parodies (such as Unisex Chip Shop, a Billy Bragg tribute which he actually performed with Billy Bragg at the 2005 Glastonbury Festival), "Three men in a pub" jokes (including one in the style of Geoffrey Chaucer) and deconstruction of television themes such as Countdown and The Magic Roundabout. A 'Bewilderness "CD was sold out concerts, which was really just a mix of studio recordings of songs and monologues in the Bill Past had done – it was later published in the shops as Bill Bailey: The Ultimate Collection … Ever!. Bailey performed in shows at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe , entitled "Steam Punk". It looked set to be sold at the fastest pony show of all time (the previous record holder also Bailey in The Odd Couple in 2005.) But a ticketing mix-up forced to buy the last 10% of the tickets in person from the venue instead of pre-booked, which means the venue at a slower overall rate as it should be, have filled out.

Bailey appeared at Beautiful Days Festival in August 2007. The British leg of the tour Tinselworm enjoyed 3 Sell-out nights at the MEN Arena in Manchester, Europe's largest indoor arena, and culminated with a sell-out performance in Wembley Arena.

Bailey is a gifted Pianist and guitarist and has perfect pitch. Favorite instruments include the keyboard, guitar, theremin, kazoo and bongos. He has also mentioned in an interview that he class 6 clarinet achieved. He was also part of the punk band Beergut 100, which he founded in 1995 presented with comedy writer Jim Miller and Martin Trenaman and Phil Whelan, Kevin Eldon as lead singer. The band at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe performed. Trenaman and Welan had previously appeared in Cosmic Jam under the name "The Stan Ellis Experiment", Trenaman and Eldon and John Moloney presented later in the power plant homage "The Hokey Kokey" on the part of Troll tour. Bill said that he and the other three actors are a tribute band called Kraftwerk moment. At the last gig of the tour Part Troll to 1 January 2005, the band appeared on stage after the "The Hokey Kokey" joke to play for an hour encore of music.

In February 2007, Bill appeared on two occasions with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Anne Dudley in a show entitled Cosmic Shindig. Implemented the Colosseum in Watford on 24 February and at the Queen Elizabeth Hall 26 February, contained orchestral versions of many of the show accompanied Bill previously performed songs, a discussion with the instruments of the orchestra and a number of new songs. In October In 2008 he joined Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Anne Dudley.

In November 2009 he was a guest on private passions, music web discussion program on BBC Radio 3

Future

From September 2008, Bailey is working on a film project about the explorer and naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, in the form of an Indonesian travelogue. Bailey said in an interview that Wallace was "airbrush out of history" and that he has a "real affinity" feel to it.
