The modern ten-string guitar, like its counterpart, has a name itself. Its invention is attributed to Narciso Yepes (1927-1997), an internationally renowned Spanish guitarist who came to a point in his career that he was six-string guitar and do not meet their needs as an artist. The problem, he said, was that this guitar lacked balance, not physically, but in the resonance of the notes. While some notes continue to sound even after the vibration of the cord had been arrested, others immediately cease. To correct this problem, Yepes determined to create a guitar that used uniform sympathetic resonance. Four bass strings were added and adjusted to also resonated in sympathy with any of the twelve notes of the chromatic scale. The effect is similar to that of a piano when the pedal is used.
The invention of the modern guitar string of ten were in 1963 in collaboration with Jose Ramirez, a Spanish guitar luthier. Since then, the ten-string guitar has become a fact in the world of music. Although not common, is certainly not unusual, and that followers tend to be devout. Ten artists promote housing string instrument bass notes, allowing accurate reproduction of music like Bach and his contemporaries (which was written for the baroque lute). The ten strings permits to play music without to adjust the bass notes.
The ten-string guitar, in addition to allowing precise performance of historical music, has also created new space for composing modern music. Today's composers including Maurice Ohana, Leonardo Balada, Bruno Maderna and many others.
