How do you know a good guitar when you see them?
I know some good guitars, I'm not an idiot, I wonder, as you say. How certain characteristics and so on. Primarily for the performance but you can say, if you make fingerboard like a certain inlay, etc. as good woods for the guitar
While generally nice guitars go Inlays cosmetic things such as special coatings or are there (in my opinion at least) three things that qualify the guitar a good one: 1. The neck fits your hand well. Each is slightly different, this is a degree of personal qualifications. The fact is that when the neck is uncomfortable or does not match Your hand, the guitar will not work for you, no matter how beautiful it looks. 2. The natural sound of the guitar. I do not talk about how it sounds when its in so much plugged … My experience has shown me that most guitars benefit from new pickups anyway. It is certainly true that high-end guitars sound good when plugged in be added as they tend to get better pickups have the right from the go, but most do not. What is more important to me is how the guitar sounds * without * gain. This is the case for all types of guitars, electric or acoustic. You can measure the amount of sustain for a guitar and the sound quality of the wood in this way in a Way that you can not necessarily by the pickups, such as pickups, certain frequencies and others to reduce stress. A guitar with good resonance, sustain and volume without amplification means that its better from a quality made wood and construction as one that does not … and yes, even with electrics. Compare a Gibson to a BC Rich, for example, and You hear what I say. The quality of the sound wood is as important as what kind of sound wood it is! 3. There are mechanical problems with just as much. If the tuner good quality? I like to see locking tuners, for example (ie, Kahler, Grover, etc). If the hardware is of good quality metal? I used a BC Rich Warlock that appeared to Chrome Own hardware … it was soft enough to ridges in the bridge, the snapping my strings, for example, began to develop. Is it again is good, his spirits remain if its properly set up and intoned, the hardware is set correctly, securely mounted (ie not wobble), the bridge screws and other small parts securely in place and adjusted? Is the fingerboard no stains, tears or other defects? How about the frets – they are free of defects, well-established and firmly set in place in the fretboard? How about the mother – is there a good quality material, and is it properly notched and grooved? If the guitar has a natural end goal is enjoyable and free of knots, painted over damage (ie cracks, etc.)? If polyurethaned etc, it is coated evenly, with no stains or bubbles in the plastic? If you are a floating Tremolo, the springs are decent quality? If the bridge smoothly? If it is set up correctly, they can stay in line after three bombs diving (a very good test for a floating trem quality, btw)? Is there a mother (also important to keep your mood stable with a floating trem)? Something I've talked to not about the aesthetics. This is pretty much a personal decision, but the guitar in general, clean lines, no obvious dents or discoloration and should look at all. I have not spoken much about box, as it is from. Factory strings suck, often the electronics must be optimized (also high-quality guitars are often not grounded or shielded properly!), and as I said, pickups need to be replaced as a rule to choose exactly the sound you want …. I I pretty much ignore the hardware, because I know I will not replace it, but in an onboard preamp, etc. … but if you are a high quality brand guitar (like a Gibson), the guitar is a degree of collectibility, and you want it to good out of the box (maybe even with new strings sound), because instead of one of the parts with non-OEM parts are actually lower value! So you have it right when you buy it, basically … I have not spoken play action, or how "fast" a guitar can. If you know how you can build a guitar, it "quickly" for you, as long as A) the neck fits your hands well, and B) of the bridge Screws and truss rod work properly. A good test is to have load him up before he even leaves the store, and if it is true then always know that certain hardware is working properly!, there are probably more I have not covered …. but that's what I remembered off the top of my head. You can not only the confidence of the brand, good quality (guarantee I play a couple of $ 300 LTD guitars, and sound better than guitars twice its price!), and you should always play, before you buy. hope this has helped a little!
