Guitar Scales confusion ..?

I'm learning the minor pentatonic scale and have a bit of confusion on how it works. I understand that if I am using a C string, I would use the pentatonic scale of C to play a tune on it. My confusion is when you change chords .. said that his consistent pattern is basic CCGGA # A # .. Do you simply transfer the pentatonic scale that is commensurate being played?
