Laptop microphone for recording, you can correct port REC?

Well here's the deal, I have a new laptop HP w / Vista, and I downloaded Adobe Soundbooth CS4 (I also tried the Windows recorder and a filmmaker I have, without success) using the microphone default over the default screen … …. and I am trying to get to record sound from your headset microphone port on the front / rear laptop, and I have a device that is a headphone jack (male) at one end and a guitar / microphone (Female) on the other I have at Radio Shack. I tried to change the default port of entry, but the only other option is a headset microphone (blue tooth) and I am getting a pop sound of their own microphone, when I run the cable a bit as well as its rapporteur, and tried to play music but did not play anything out of your microphone …. that means my device shack is a device so unique? (And do not choose the easy answer) or is there another way to default ports of the audio path in the settings? please help !…^^;

If you have Vista 64, may have to do with the fact that 64 bit is not compatible with kernel drivers and recording will give you problems. I have two programs Recording on my Vista 64 system just does not register
