Gibson Guitars are a symbol of the guitar industry. Gibson is currently a major player in both electric guitar and acoustic guitar market. The company was originally named by Orville Gibson, who made mandolins in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the end of the 19th Century. Gibson used the same method to first acoustic archtop to the large body Guitars.

1958 was a great year for Gibson guitars. gave this year the sunburst Les Paul, a new cherry that is very popular today with collectors. Gibson changed the shape of the Les Paul Junior and Les Paul Special to now have a double cut away. The new style was later the SG which is easy for Solid Guitar.
In the same year, also Gibson Guitars, radically with their body shape. They bought the first Double neck guitar. She also Flying V-shape and the File Explorer. This was in response to guitar players, the emphasis in search of their guitars and the sound and playability. Gibson guitars could stamp their mark on the guitar industry for many years.
