Connecting instruments to the PC.?
I have Sonar 7 working no probs on my desktop PC. All soft synthesizers and sound great. But I'm looking connecting guitars, microphones and a MIDI keyboard (% http://www.studiospares.com/pd_363880_M% 20AUDIO 20OXYGEN% 2049%%% 20USB 20MIDI 20KEYBOARD.htm) in a time. Do I need an audio interface or go to the midi keyboard is enough? If yes to avian influenza, which is better USB Firewire? Thanks for your answers beforehand.
If you are interested in recording his guitar and voice, then you will need an audio interface. This is a box that connects to the computer that has all kinds of connections for microphones and instruments. Without this box, you can connect your guitar or microphone, except through his microphone into the connector on the computer, which as you should know is a small connector and it will sound horrible. Sonar 7 is not a toy for children, so I'm sure you do not want to use the small 1/8in jack on your computer to record your needs. Midi keyboard plays a different role in his musical output, you can use to play virtual instruments and synthesizers to play. As for USB and Firewre goes, the Firewire is "better" in the sense that it has a faster connection than USB, and no more bandwidth to transfer his guitar and microphone signals to your computer. But unless you plan on some extreme multi-track recording guitar with several microphones at the same time, a USB interface would be more than sufficiant. Also bare in mind that for a FireWire interface to work must have a firewire port available on your computer.
