I've been looking at getting a new guitar for months, but I can not change your mind. I opted initially by a cherry Gibson SG, but I'm not heavy enough. – I have only one guitar at the moment an Epiphone G-400 SG. My style of play is metal, hard rock, alternative and heavy metal. (Bands like Coheed and Cambria, Pantera, Metallica, AC / DC), etc. What I guitar, and pills? My configuration is simply distortion Boss ML-2 (My amp has no gain settings for some reason, I think it's a bass amp) and I hate to sound thick, and the shrill cries of solos or artificial harmonics. I have also looked to replace the pads on a Gibson SG with EMG, or get an ESP with EMG ESP fitted, or even find Zakk Wylde Gibson Les Paul signature. Help please!
If you want a good metal tone, then you need a good amplifier. Period. An amplifier with no name that has no control gain or, worse, is a bass amp is not going to do a good job in getting no … you need something that will be more oriented toward the sound you want. Let me give an example of what I mean … distortion generates a large amount of high frequency noise, and not always the pretty guy. This happens on both the amp and pedals distortion. guitar amplifiers and speakers in the rock guitar in particular outside these high frequencies so you can get a warmer, rounder tone front a thin, harder (in a nasty way) tone. no woofers. subwoofers are designed to reproduce a wider frequency response The guitar speaker … not only lower, but more so – are much less pronounced high-end roll-off, and that means more noise to maintain high often unpleasant. That's not good times! So if you're willing to drop some money on a new guitar, which means you have the money to drop on a amplifier back into place. Take your guitar to a music store (ie Guitar Center, Sam Ash, whatever) and connect a few different amps – Marshall Fund, Peavey, B-52, Orange, Laney, and Mesa Boogie are examples of brands that you should try (or at least you should if you can find). – The amplifier itself is not everything speakers are as important if not more important, that the amplifier itself. You simply can not overestimate the power of a good set of speakers in the search for a tone good, solid … I'm willing to bet that a good set of speakers probably even work in your amp as is and give a better tone as it is …. though of course would not be my first choice! Probably the two most important things I want to see is multiple speakers and rating. More speakers, in general, equal to a better tone. Larger speakers generally means better tone. Speakers rated higher in general means better bass and a drawer, a sound clear (if that's what you're looking for, of course). Thus, for instance, speakers in a 4×12 120w cab will be rated at 40 watts a piece, right? Well, compared to a speaker rated at 75w (ie, a 300w 4×12 cab) will not have near the solid bass and clear treble details that most speakers power is ….. * In general *. speakers have different tonal characteristics, keep this in mind. Research to find the right speakers for you is ideal, but at least try to find a taxi that is rated with a higher wattage. Each of the bands I listed have a different approach to their sound, using different amps and different pads, different arts. Claudio de la Mesa Boogie CNC, CNC Travis used a Marshall JCM2000 I think, then, for their third album, both Bogner Uberschalls changed, I think Metallica has always used Mesa Boogie (but Amplifiers Marshall seem to nail the tone very well), Dimebag used a lot of EQ, a distortion pedal, and solid state Randall amps, AC / DC guitars used similar to yours with a Marshall 50w tube amp (at least when play live), etc. If you like the way your guitar playing now, then do not switch it out for something more … just put in new pads. If you want to change, try a few before buying. I like lighter guitars, as Jackson, Ibanez or LTD are my preferences, but certainly Epiphone, Schecter, etc are all about the table. For me I went with passive pickups (Seymour Duncan) and a preamp …. this gives me a warmer tone, but also gives me more dynamic range and tone detail than can be achieved with active pickups. My current favorite is an Alnico II Pro in the neck (for a sound that sounds like Slash, especially drivers) and an alternative 8 in the bridge (very hot, has a nice tone Chimey however, similar to the JB, but with a stronger low end, so a lot of clarity, even with the increase saturated fatty acids distortion pedals and tube amps very well). Dimebag putting EQ before and after the distortion pedal … MID to raising its the distortion pedal and then cut …. this gave much more saturated, the tone and gain. You can achieve the same effect with EQ pedals, wah pedals, pedals overdrive / booster, etc … I can use my Dunlop 535Q before my distortion pedal, for example, driven alone in the foot and most of the way forward for a very smooth, but very distorted, thick tone. To play more relaxed, I have a Epiphone Valve Jr (extension cab +). It cost me about $ 250, is a cheap tube amp, and once I put in a tube preamp gain low (a 12AU7 / ECC83, I think, instead of a 12AX7) stopped treble be so pervasive, that is more relaxed (ie, more reasonable volume, 5 watts tube is very strong!) And I can be a very good skin tone thick with my Metalcore … Saul
