This means playing the notes, but as pinched harmonics. These harmonics require the thumb to take strict the string as you play with your strumming hand. But depending on where the note is placed on the fret board determines where whereabouts during the pick ups that need to play the note, for example, frets 14 may require you to play the note at the end of the selected range selection ups.
