Author: A story with relatively few words but full of meaning, the music of life, the life of a frustrated musician. The story is by a narrator, the Musicians meet at a station in Siberia, and probably told in a snow storm. The narrator in the middle of many stranded travelers looking for a chair when the sound of gentle Music beckons him a deserted part of the station, where old furniture is stored. There he meets these musicians and told us his story as a chance to bring together, to and off several times.
During the Stalin era, Alexei Berg, pianist, escapes from Moscow shortly before his first public recital. When he does this by he discovers that his parents were arrested, will soon be sent into exile. After several incidents where people have to hide him, and he narrowly escapes from harm, he finds his Way to a battlefield on the Russians fought the Germans in World War II. He takes the identity of a dead Russian soldier, who looks like him and managed in the war To fight for the driver later became general, whose life he saved during the war one.
While working for the general public falls The musicians for the general young daughter who turns out to be girls as callous and careless. As Alexei is the mask, he is in Siberia for several labor-intensive hardened yearly basis. This tragic story does not end in disaster, but it is similarly bleak in the work of the earlier Russian masters, Chekhov and Dostoyevsky.
What fascinated me was author's use of selective language with intensive economy, which reminds me of poetry. This story was originally written in French, then translated into other languages, even in spirit, it was always Russian. The translator Geoffrey Strachan deserves high praise for this successful Translation.
The author, Andrei Makine was born in Russia in Krasnoyarsk in 1957 and received political asylum in France in 1987. In 1995 his novel Dreams of My Russian Summers won the Goncourt Prize and the Médicis Prize, France's two most prestigious literary awards.

Music of a life, even though only 109 pages is an epic in essence, because they Love, loss, music, war and political upheaval. I would be very happy to see these wonderful writers get a Nobel Prize someday, just because they (my Opinion), his work justified.
