Play Guitar Flash Gh

What am I doing wrong here?
Okay, I got a used GH Aerosmith guitar from GameStop so when I get the money, I can play GH:Metallica with the guitar (not a controller).
I went home loaded the GH:M demo I downloaded, hit the Xbox guide button (that turns it on) and the lights started blinking. They danced around the center button and flashed and stuff, but didn’t stay on a light like they normally do with controllers. Most of all, it completely didn’t work with the demo.
I thought it was the guitar, so I exchanged it for a GH:III LoR guitar…SAME THING….I’m a newbie to using the 360 guitars and I need to know whats going on here…any help?
did you sync the controller to your xbox? There is a little button on the side of the guitar, press and hold it for a few seconds and then press and hold the little button on the 360 until they both simultaneously start blinking.
