Author: Bob Dylan – No Direction Home Review
Bob Dylan Martin Scorsese's work, shown on BBC 2 in the UK, in late September 2005, was a look in-depth training Dylan years, until the time of "Judas" insulting and motorcycle accident in 1966. Ultimately, it is a documentary inspiring, although the film ended abruptly, when it had been better at least have seen some glimpses of Dylan after 1966.
Perhaps there is Dylan not too much material in this one-hour film about three and a half years, but in general, is a fascinating look at Dylan's early career, with reviews of their own man – from now to 1960. Much of the archive footage is drawn from two sources – DA Pennebaker's film about Dylan 1965 tour of England, 'Do Look Back "and" Festival of Murray Lerner – covering the 1963 Newport Folk Festival.
The film goes into Dylan's early influences, especially Woody Guthrie, and the environment of the early-mid 60's America, the civil rights struggle, Vietnam, and the assassination of President Kennedy. All grist to the mill of Dylan.
Dylan was very involved in civil rights scene, playing in Mississippi, with his friend and great influence of Pete Seeger, and also play on the same podium, and the same day, where Martin Luther King delivered his legendary "I have a dream" – a speech that astonished even leave Dylan, as reflected: "I was nearby when King was giving that speech, and this day still affects me in a profound way. "
Dylan, in his early days, appears as half interviewed moody haze of cigarette smoke, obviously happy to let his songs do the talking. Dylan never wanted to be a star malleable. It was the success in their own terms. Dylan: "I've never been that kind of artist who wants to be one of them You know, like one of the crowd .."
"No Direction Home" have little very revealing material for devotees of Dylan, but it is an important documentary on one of the most influential figures of 20th Century Music. Al Kooper tells how his way to Blagg memorable Dylan 'Like A Rolling Stone' the track, as the organist, though he was originally recruited as a guitarist. Blues guitar god heard Mike Bloomfield, realized he could not compete, so they sought an opportunity to get something in the registry to play more. Sneaks Kooper on organ, and was so careful not make a mistake that was the eighth of a note behind the rest of the players – just to make sure he did well.
Other contributions to the note from Joan Baez, which is blasphemy-laden, and still seems hurt by the way ended her relationship with Dylan. Joan Dylan had seen on television, before he was famous, and I thought maybe I needed a male voice. Dylan had goals and achievements. Do not be afraid to express anti-establishment views, but behaves offensive to people who could help on the road to success.
1963 saw the triumph of Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival, with its leader a version of 'Blowin' In The Wind ", with Peter, Paul and Mary, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, and singers of Liberty. His performance there in 1965 was less than a triumph return. Dylan had an electrified backing band for the first time, and a large part of the crowd turned on him. Seeger is rumored to have been so sad to see his protege to go electric I was going to cut the wires. It was also said, however, that Seeger was distraught because his father was hard of hearing, and sound a bit loud and distorted it was disorienting. Dylan returned to the stage after his electric set, through a desperate bid to play a song on his acoustic. The 1966 tour of England also was a full one, with Dylan backed by what would later be the band. There was "Judas" calls and boos everywhere he went, but the criticism seems quite mild by today's standards, although there was a little rumor that someone took a picture of Dylan while he was on stage in England. Furthermore, in 'No Direction Home ', there are some pictures from the scene of the great Bob and Johnny Cash in a duet of piano on this tour.
Among the other contributors in the film were Liam Clancy, who rightly said: "He has expressed what could not." Peter Yarrow also contributed a sad frail Allen Ginsberg, Maria Muldaur, Suze Rotolo old flame, and Pete Seeger – still looking for Bob to parental and fraternal affection.
